Steve is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy—a credential in the industry that recognizes an individual’s competence and expertise in the practice of orthopaedic manual therapy. His extensive training has provided Steve with excellent assessment skills, which help him accurately diagnose patients’ conditions and therefore provide treatment that targets the cause of a patient’s complaint to enable him or her to regain function more quickly.
Steve was first attracted to the field of physical therapy as a high school athlete whose personal experience with physical therapy following an injury enabled him to return to sports. A runner since 1982 and now a triathlete, Steve’s experiences help him relate to his patients and guide their treatment plans.
Knowing that injuries can be caused by any combination of work, sports, and leisure, Steve enjoys the challenge of determining what is causing someone’s pain or dysfunction and then helping that person return to whatever it is that he or she loves to do.
He uses a functional approach to figure out what caused the problem and focuses on the biomechanical aspects of how a patient’s joints move and interrelate to muscle, tendons, and nerves. He particularly enjoys the challenge of evaluating and treating issues involving the spine.
Steve earned his degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Lowell in 1991. He completed a two-year part-time residency at the Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy in Woburn, MA to advance his skills in orthopedic manual therapy before commencing his fellowship training.
