At one time, sports physical therapy was reserved only for elite athletes at the college, professional, or Olympic level. Today, sports physical therapy is available to all athletes at any level.
SSPT physical therapists have backgrounds in biomechanics and physiology, which enable them to provide expert movement analysis across a wide range of sporting activities including running, jumping and landing, throwing, cycling, swimming, and golf. Our performance enhancement service consists of two main movement analysis components: a thorough musculoskeletal evaluation and a real-time, computerized video analysis that enables the physical therapist to identify minor functional and technical irregularities otherwise imperceptible to the naked eye.
Your physical therapist will first thoroughly examine your core stability, joint range of motion, muscle length, and muscle control requirements specific to your sport. Your therapist will then identify strengths and weaknesses revealed by your musculoskeletal evaluation and correlate them to findings from the real-time video analysis.
Using the video analysis as a visual feedback tool, you can begin to correct technique or postural errors immediately. Your therapist will design a comprehensive customized exercise program, specifically with the requirements of your sport in mind, to address insufficiencies identified throughout the screening process. Both the functional video analysis and the exercise program can be provided as video files for future reference.
